I went to school in Boulder when I got my photography and psychology degrees, and remember fall days spent on the patio of Dushanbe listening to the creek rush by and drinking unlimited chais. I killed so many afternoons that way and the Dushanbe Teahouse still gives me the most wonderful feeling of nostalgia. When Kaitlyn contacted me and told me that was their venue, I was ecstatic! I didn’t even realize they hosted weddings and I was so excited to be able to use the fun colors of the building and the gorgeous grape vines in their photos.
I knew right away that Kaitlyn was an amazing fit when she started describing how casual and laid back she wanted the afternoon to be. She didn’t want any of the traditional wedding elements, and just wanted to spend time with their friends and have a good time. She and Kfir were also having a wedding in Israel where his family is from, so the Boulder wedding got to be her brainchild and a low key celebration with their friends. She didn’t even want flowers, but sometimes you gotta give mom a little say in things 😉
I had so much fun taking their portraits around the Dushanbe Teahouse and the Boulder Museum of Contemporary art! They both loved all things modern and funky, so having some art pieces and urban brick walls to play around with was so perfect. Of course, my obsession with green had to come into play as well, and those vines growing over the patios of Dushanbe made an amazing backdrop.
The dance party was raging with some amazing Israel-fusion music. They SO know how to party! For a small wedding, the dance floor was bumping until late in the night, and I was so glad I got to hang out for a bunch of it.
