Boulder Engagement Photos at Brainard Lake in Colorado
Thanks to Instagram, I feel like Colorado (and other states with gorgeous views) have started getting plagued by people who claim to live adventurously, share photos of their vans, and post perfectly posed photos of themselves in yoga pants posed like a fitness model (with perfect hair and makeup) at an amazing viewpoint. Emma and Taylor are the people who inspired the Instagram trend. They are true, down to earth, adventurous souls and you can tell it just from spending five minutes with them. We did their engagement photos up at Brainard Lake, and these two spent the day hiking all around the area scouting out views and pretty aspens for us to photograph near… and they still looked amazing! Taylor looked just the part in his cozy flannel, and I don’t have words for how obsessed I am with Emma’s hat!
Emma confided in me that they were both pretty nervous going into their session. No surprise, I hear this a lot when people first arrive to take photos. That’s just one of the reasons why doing engagement photos before the wedding is a fantastic idea—who wants those nerves while you’re getting ready for your wedding! She said that normally when she’s in front of the camera she gets the nervous giggles! Not five minutes into the session, Taylor looked at her and said “hey, you haven’t even had a nervous laughing fit yet.” Those giggles are are real, peeps!
These two weren’t afraid of a challenge, and had no problem jumping up onto the huge Brainard Lake boulder to take some photos! I promise, it’s a lot bigger when you’re standing at the base of it trying to figure out how to get to the top.
Of course, it being September in Colorado, we couldn’t skip those fall leaf photos!! Once we were done catching the amazing rays of sun setting behind the mountains, the leaf hunt was one! The last half hour of the session we spent driving through the recreation area, pulling over every time we saw a grove of gold.
We had one of those magical Colorado weather patterns roll in too. Within the hour or so that we were taking photos, it was sunny, windy, pouring with rain, and last but not least—we got a RAINBOW!!!
We found this absolutely perfect pull off on our way out of Brainard Lake. Mountains, aspens, and a perfect view of the rainbow!! This session just couldn’t have been better.
