The perfect “rainy day” plan for your courthouse wedding photos
I had the most amazing experience photographing a courthouse wedding on a rainy day in Denver. Thank goodness we had already planned on taking photos in the Denver Capitol, because we would have been SOL photographing in Civic Center Park for this one. The weather may not have been ideal, but let me tell you, the photos turned out absolutely stunning! The unique architecture and moody lighting of the capitol made it such an amazing backdrop for their portraits. The main staircase may be one of my new favorite spots in Denver for that classy vintage vibe.
After the ceremony and portraits, we headed over to The Study in Hotel Teatro for a small reception with the couple’s family and friends. The intimate setting created the perfect atmosphere for celebrating the two of them. I loved that they kept it simple; just a cocktail hour with snacks and mingling. But, they still added a cake cutting and speeches. The amazing thing about planning your own elopement and microwedding is picking and choosing what moments mean the most to you. Just do that, and leave out all the fluff of a big wedding.
I love how each wedding I photograph is unique and special in its own way. Courthouse weddings, elopements, intimate gatherings – they all have a beauty and charm that is truly unforgettable. Being able to capture the love and connection between two people is what makes wedding photography so rewarding. I feel so grateful to be able to do what I love and bring so much happiness to others through my work. Cheers to more love stories and special moments!

The Study at Hotel Teatro
The Perfect Microwedding Reception Space in Denver
The Study is one of the private dining spaces you can rent inside the Hotel Teatro. It’s the perfect size for a small afternoon cocktail reception with snacks. You can keep all the amazing furniture (like this couple did) for people to sit and chat in smaller groups, or you can replace the furniture with dining tables for a more formal reception.
If you’re looking for a larger space, The Nickel Dining Room holds up to 77 for a seated dinner, but 150 if you are just hosting a standing reception with snacks. If Denver history is your thing, the restaurant is the old tramway station, built in 1911. You also get access to the small patio when you do a full buyout of the restaurant.
Oh, and is moody your vibe? If so, the smallest space in Hotel Tetro is their downstairs wine cellar. It can’t hold as many people, but oh boy is it a vibe. Cozy, dark, and perfect for that classy speakeasy dinner with your close friends and family. Or, if you happen to be a big nerd like I am, this would be the coolest spot for a DnD gaming night!!
Hotel Teatro is located at 1100 14th St, Denver, CO 80202. The hotel has a valet, but otherwise guests will need to park on the street, or in the paid lots scattered around downtown Denver (usually $10-15 for an evening). So, it may make sense to provide guests with some rideshare credit if they aren’t staying at the hotel to make sure they all get home safely. If they do stay at Hotel Teatro, the location is incredible for access to everything Denver offers from the Denver Performing Arts Complex to amazing restaurants and bars near the theater complex.
