Denver Coffee Shop Engagement Photos
I always include an engagement session with my packages as a freebie so I can get to know the rad people I will be working with before the wedding day rolls around. Aaron and Samantha weren’t going to use the session, and just wanted to grab coffee and chat. But, Aaron also suggested I bring my camera too just in case we felt like some photos. I chose a coffee shop that looked cute and had big windows in case we did take photos! Turns out, taking the engagement was nowhere near as traumatizing as they imagined it to be, and we basically did a full session anyway.
While I researched the coffee shop, I had no idea that this rad industrial yellow structure was right next door to the place we picked! I was super stoked to play around with these layers and catch some sparkly lights off the hanging edison bulbs above the patio. I love finding little gems like this around Denver and will definitely be back on this patio if they’ll let me! Of course, I’ll be grabbing some beers there and hanging on the patio once summer hits too.
While the location was stunning, nothing brought me more joy than how much these two love to laugh with each other. Samantha said at one point that they both show their love by giving the other one a hard time. That means jokes, sarcasm, and wit was pouring from these two the whole time I was photographing. You can even see a “ministry of silly walks” moment in the frames below (Monty Python anyone?).
Speaking of Monty Python, Samantha and I made the crazy discovery that we were both born in the UK and were young transplants to America! We both say the “t’s” in our words instead of dropping them into the back of our throat like most Coloradans. I’m sure as we hang out more we’ll find some other weird Britishisms we both have. Just this morning I called myself a “lazy lout” when I was hanging out with my friend (and fellow wedding photographer) Sarah, and discovered that, surprise, that isn’t a common saying here. It’s amazing how much stuff I still have in my vocabulary even though I’ve been here for over 20 years.
More dreaminess. Edison bulbs, metal walls, skylights, and this cool architecture all make my heart so so so happy!! I always am on such a high after I find new locations for engagement photos. Denver is so overrun with photographers that nowhere stays “secret” or “unique” for long and it’s hard to shake the urge to imitate what you’ve seen on instagram in your photos. Having fresh eyes on a place with no preconceptions about photos I should take is such a great feeling! So, if you’re planning your photos, find somewhere new, fun, and different. Bonus points if it has special meaning to you as well!
