Do you love the soul, grit, and colors of film?
Me too. Frankly, obsessed with it.
While I can’t argue with the reliability of digital photography, now that lenses are so perfect, sensors are so good, and lighting is so easy, it feels like something is missing.
I started dabbling with film a few years ago, and am incredibly excited to start offering it to my clients for their weddings. If you’re looking for that magical nostalgia, those incredible colors, and something to take your photos to the next level, this could be it.
So here’s what we’ll do.

What I photograph with
a 120mm (medium format) film camera & a 35mm film camera
To me, 120mm is where the good shit is. The massive size of the negative gives you the highest quality and soul of the image. The grain and colors are absolute perfection. There’s not a huge difference for me between 35mm and digital images, so I focus on the larger format camera for most of the wedding day.
But, 35mm really shines during the party photos for that gritty night time look. I usually use a high ISO black and white film or a color film with flash.

If you add hybrid coverage…

I include a second photographer
Film inherently is a little slower than digital to work with, and having an extra set of hands is great for loading film and capturing moments on digital while I’m making something with film. This makes sure the quality of both your film and digital images are up to snuff.

I use a roll for each part of your day
This may change based on your event, but I usually stick to a roll every hour or so. That means a roll during your getting ready phots, a roll during the wedding party phots, a roll during the ceremony, etc. I’ll often do more than that for your portraits together, or during detail photos.

I still use a digital camera too
Weddings are too high stakes for me to trust using just film for an event. So, I’m still using my digital camera alongside my film one. I’ll make sure I use both cameras during all parts of your day, so there’s never a section missing from either coverage.

Develop your film at a LOCAL professional lab
I never ever mail wedding film, as I am too worried about losing someone’s memories. I have an amazing local lab that delivers incredible quality scans.
I still edit the scans once I receive (this is the equivalent of editing in a darkroom) and make sure you get a stunning and cohesive set of photos. Your edited scans are added to your final gallery as digital files, and you can print them, just like the rest of your images.

Working with Kate was a dream from start to finish! She is organized, communicative, kind, and so patient. She made us feel comfortable in front of the camera and safe to be ourselves, and absolutely nailed our photos.

FAQs

let’s talk
I’m Kate
about Your film wedding photographer
Lover of all things vintage, and the smell of old books. I’m obsessed with collecting film cameras, typewriters, and live in a house built in 1890. It might because my British genes are drawn to all things more than a hundred years old, or maybe I just enjoy the nostalgia.
I’m also a total nerd. I read fantasy & sci-fi, am obsessed with video games and board games, and still play things like Pokemon and Magic the Gathering even though it’s not the 90’s. My outfit at last year’s renaissance festival included a corset AND a film camera.
I’ve been photographing weddings since 2012, and am pumped to keep this thing going in this wild industry. I truly love what I do to my core, and will forever be honored that I get to witness such incredible moments in people’s lives.
